Visualization - How I sold my house

I was house poor at the time.  Any discretionary income I earned went to keeping up my house.  Something always needed fixing and there was no way I could afford to hire anyone so I learned how to fix whatever.  My labor was free but I still had to buy parts, like a $700 underwater pump for the koi pond which had to be plumbed and wired once I scraped together the cash.  I did the job and didn’t kill any fish in the process.

It belatedly occurred to me to sell the place.  However the house had some features that wouldn’t appeal to everyone, (like a huge koi pond,) so I figured it’d take some time to sell.  I'd heard about visualization techniques and decided to give it a try.  I began spending five minutes morning and night visualizing the house selling among some other mood elevating exercises like counting my blessings and focusing on the positive.  It truly helped improve my outlook on life.

A string of events unfolded that summer.  I entered a contest for a year’s supply of really good dog food.  And won.  For my sweet Scottie dog.  I found a $100 bill under the grandstand at the St. Paul rodeo – with nary a soul in sight.   I was invited on a helicopter ride over Mt. St. Helens to view the reforestation since the volcano blew; I’d always wanted to ride in a helicopter and here was my chance.  I phoned one of those call in contests on the radio and won a package that included a private concert with Dave Matthews and tickets to the public concert later that evening.  It turned out the concert date and the helicopter ride date were the same day.  I opted for the concert figuring the mountain would keep.

It was a fabulous day.  There were maybe 40 people at the Roseland Theatre, (an intimate venue in Portland,) seated in folding chairs on the dance floor just a few feet from Dave, up on the stage with a guitar, strumming away.  It was so much fun! I was already a DMB fan but boy, oh boy, my heart was throbbing from being this close to him!  The concert later in the evening with the entire band was huge and marvelous.  I was high as a kite on the way home.  A natural high.

My house sold in August.

While I can’t definitively state that practicing visualization brought all these things into being, it sure seemed like it at the time!

Oh, and I did get a helicopter ride - over the Rockie Mountains.  WOW.
