Nightmare

Pinned.
Can’t move.
Pressure on my chest.
Gripped by terror.
Can’t breathe.
Heart pounding so hard I’m afraid it will burst from my chest.
Pinned.
Can’t move.
Can’t breathe.
I try to fight, can’t move.
Groan.

I hear “you’re dreaming, wake up”

And reality breaks through the surface of the nightmare.

I awake drenched in sweat, gasping for breath.

This made my heart go out to all those who were touched by the recent earthquake. An all too real nightmare for them.

Every now and then my son breaks the surface and talks in his sleep - unfortunately he's finished by the time I'm fully awake.
Some dreams evoke that terror in me, too. And then some I want to recapture when I do "surface".
I'm a bit claustrophobic...just READING this makes me feel a bit anxious!

Nightmare? Or night terrors?

Or perhaps they're both the same... underneath the surface.

I rarely have nightmares, but I wake The Mister up a lot when he's dreaming like this!

Very nice. I've had dreams of being pinned underneath a train. Wonder what THAT means? :)

Very very good post. wow. Loved it in its simplicity. I;ve had that before but never woken up actually in sweat. Ugh. have felt pinned in times past though.

In light of the Haitian disaster this particularly resonates. Scary sad and all too true. Well written. Thanks for visiting my post too!

I hate these dreams but it is nice to wake up from them and realize that they were, in fact, just dreams.

this really captures the terror - and the relief

I feel the need to go out in the garden now!
