Oregon Creamery Man - Elmer O Post

My grandfather, Elmer O. Post graduated from Oregon Ag (now Oregon State U - go Beavers) in 1917.

After college he opened a creamery and made cheese.

He operated a creamery for 24 odd years. He's the good looking man in the rubber apron. No bias here.

He was visiting us shortly after attending his 50th class reunion in 1967 - I remember asking him how he could possibly recognize anyone after 50 years. Impertinent. As that milestone approaches for me, it doesn't seem as improbable as it once did...

When I first saw the picture I thought that it was Franklin Roosevelt! Not a bad person to look like!

Wonderful photos. And you got it right -- the older I get, the sillier the things I thought in my youth. Still...I might be willing to back up a few years for a few sillies. If only I could.

Very nice post. Did people just have more imagination back in those days? I mean, Elmer finished college and opened a creamery. Both adventurous and enterprising. Thank you for sharing.

Iowa State University was an Iowa Agriculture college also. Very interesting blog. It will be neat to do the reunion and remember that your grandfather had done it also.

Interesting picture. At first glance I thought "Roosevelt" too.

The old cheese makers look interesting (the machines, not the men!), I like pictures of old machinery and to compare them with their modern counterparts.

My grandfather received word at college that his father was dying and had requested to speak to him. He pedaled his bicycle from Corvallis to Blachly some 24 miles distant. He arrived too late and he never learned what his father wanted to say.
